If you have a question about this talk, please contact Paola Falugi. Numerical solution of Optimal Control Problems (OCP) is an active area of research with many applications in variety of scientific and industrial fields. The talk focuses on a mixed symbolic numeric approach suitable to solve large optimal control problem or real time applications. The first part of the talk describes the applications implemented with this method mainly in the automotive and manufacturing fields. The second part of the talk, after a brief review of available solution techniques, introduces the proposed algorithm based on an indirect method which reduces to solve a nonlinear system. The key elements are a robust nonlinear solver based on an affine invariant Newton method, the formal solution of the controls and the use of computer algebra software for the automatic code generation. The last part of the talk shows the performance on benchmark tests and comparison with freely available solver for optimal control. This talk is part of the Control and Power Seminars series.
