Reconfigurable Computing at TU Darmstadt: Architectures, Tools, and Applications

The talk will give an overview of more than 10 years of research in reconfigurable computing performed by the Embedded Systems and Applications group (ESA) at TU Darmstadt (Germany). It will cover applications and application-specific architectures for fields such as high-speed network processing and the use of FPGA -based computing even in very low-power wireless sensor nodes for infrastructure monitoring. Microarchitecture topics presented include shared memory heterogeneous computing, high-performance floating point operators, as well as attaching accelerators using fast PCI Express Gen3 interfaces. On the tools side, the focus will be on compilers for translating high-level languages, such as C and various domain-specific languages, to hardware.’‘

``Andreas Koch received his diploma in informatics and his doctorate in engineering in 1992 and 1997, respectively, both from the Technical University Braunschweig (Germany). He then joined the University of California at Berkeley as a Post-Doctoral Scholar in the BRASS research group. In 1999 he returned to Braunschweig, continuing his research on hardware architectures and design tools. After his habilitation in 2005, Andreas Koch moved to Technische Universität Darmstadt (Germany) as Computer Science faculty, heading the newly founded Embedded Systems and Applications Group. His current research interests include hardware/software co-compilers, computer architecture and compute-intense embedded systems. He is a member of ACM , GI, IEEE , and a Principal Investigator at the Center for Advanced Security Research (CASED) in Darmstadt. He has led or participated in a number of national and international research projects on application-specific computer architectures and their programming tools.’‘
