If you have a question about this talk, please contact Michael Merlin. Terence O’Donnell joined University College Dublin in January 2013 as a senior lecturer and is a principle investigator with the Electricity Research Centre, where he looks after the strand dealing with Interconnection. He has a background in power electronics, having spent 13 years as a researcher in the Tyndall National Institute in Cork. In that role, he led a small team working on design, modelling and fabrication of integrated magnetics for dc-dc power conversion, magnetic field sensors, inductive powering and energy harvesting. Since joining UCD he has been developing a research strand focused on the use of power electronics converters in power systems and in particular on the integration and interfacing of power electronics to the grid. In the talk, Terence will give an overview of some of the research which is being conducted at the ERC in UCD and will attempt to outline some of the proposed directions for his research. Topics touched on will include the development and application of solid state transformers and the application of power electronics in the interconnection of offshore renewable energy.
