As a promising technology to interconnect the digital world with the physical world, Machine-to-Machine (M2M) can be explored as new business opportunities for industry. With the development in the past decade, we already see a number of emerging M2M applications, such as intelligent transport systems (ITS), smart grid and smart city, etc. Over the course of the forthcoming decade, it is inevitable that M2M industrialization and a large-scale deployment will widely come true and thus a number of players, including telecom operators, manufacturers and service providers, have been working closely to build an ecosystem around M2M . In this seminar, we take a telecom operator’s point of view and share with you some latest research activities in the industry field and see how these innovations can benefit our daily lives. Bio: Dr. Zhengguo Sheng is now with Orange Labs Beijing as the project leader in M2M and Internet-of-Things and he is also the coordinator between Orange and Chinese MNOs. His current research focuses on machine-to-machine (M2M) technologies, especially the capillary networks (or WSN ) driven technical challenges, including radio connectivity, communication protocol, device/network management, IT enabler platform and smart cities, etc. With six years research experiences across industry and academia, my research interests cover a wide range in wireless communication from the fundamental information theory to radio technology and protocol design, etc. Before joining Orange Labs, he received his Ph.D and M.S. degrees with distinction at Imperial College London in 2011 and 2007, respectively, and B.Sc. degree from University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC) in 2006.
