Cloud Computing is a model of computing services that are commoditised and delivered in a manner similar to utilities such as water, electricity, gas, and telephony, and many IT vendors offer storage, computation and application hosting services, with coverage in several continents, offering Service-Level Agreements (SLA) backed performance and uptime promises for their services. This talk will cover the architecture for creating market-oriented Clouds by leveraging technologies such as VMs, and market-based resource management strategies that encompass both customer-driven service management and computational risk management to sustain SLA -oriented resource allocation. The Aneka software system for rapid development of Cloud applications and their deployment on private/public, and experimental results on deploying Cloud applications in engineering, gaming, and health care domains (integrating sensors networks, mobile devices) will also be discussed.

Professor Rajkumar Buyya is Professor of Computer Science and Software Engineering, at the University of Melbourne, Australia, and founding CEO of Manjrasoft, a spin-off company of the University, commercializing its innovations in Cloud Computing. He has authored over 425 publications and four text books including “Mastering Cloud Computing” published by McGraw Hill and Elsevier/Morgan Kaufmann, 2013 and edited several books including “Cloud Computing: Principles and Paradigms” (Wiley Press, USA , Feb 2011). A highly cited author worldwide (h-index=70, g-index=144, 23400+ citations), Microsoft Academic Search Index ranked Dr. Buyya as as the world’s top author in distributed and parallel computing between 2007 and 2012, and ISI has identified him as a “Highly Cited Researcher” based on citations to his journal papers. He received the “2009 IEEE Medal for Excellence in Scalable Computing” from the IEEE Computer Society, USA , and is currently serving as the foundation Editor-in-Chief (EiC) of IEEE Transactions on Cloud Computing.
