In this talk, the work I have done until now will be presented in the context of the DeSyRe EU FP7 project. A framework has been developed including a Microblaze embedded soft processor that runs a multi-threaded real time operating system (Xilkernel) on a Xilinx ML605 FPGA board. Fault tolerance is provided by exploiting the partial dynamic reconfiguration capability of Xilinx FPG As for a second order polynomial example implemented in hardware with VHDL .

Then the talk will describe Virtual FPG As as a way for providing (user level) robustness in a design without relying on a specific platform board. Virtual FPGA architecture provides an abstraction layer by hiding low level details of the physical hardware platform, thus offering portability across several FPG As at the cost of area and performance.
