Data for urban and transport planning: Trends & emerging data sourcesAdd to your list(s) Download to your calendar using vCal
If you have a question about this talk, please contact Susan Brace. Urban and transport planners have traditionally relied on a wide range of survey based datasets, with a smattering of sensor data for operational analysis. Over time this trend has evolved to the point where sensor networks within the transport infrastructure are incredibly rich, and at the same time a variety of other ICT -enabled ‘big’ data sources have emerged. This talk describes the evolving data landscape and discusses challenges and opportunities therein, from an urban and transport systems planning perspective. Three research projects currently underway within the Urban Systems Lab are highlighted to illustrate these challenges and opportunities. Specifically, the talk presents research on (a) privacy preserving enrichment of big data, (b) integrated modelling of building occupancy and urban systems, and© productivity impacts of ICT and mobile working. Speaker Bio: Aruna Sivakumar is a senior lecturer in consumer behaviour and urban systems at the Centre for Transport Studies, Imperial College London. She is executive director of the Urban Systems Laboratory, and leads several smart city and systems modelling initiatives. As PI, she has attracted funding worth £1.2m over the last 5 years from national and international sources such as EPSRC , ESRC, Shell Inc in the UK, and SMRT Singapore. Over a career spanning 15+ years Aruna has published more than 40 peer reviewed journal papers, made over a 100 conference presentations, and published several book chapters. She has a h-index of 16 (google scholar)/11 (Scopus), i10 index of 21, and her review paper on urban energy systems has been cited over 150 times over the 6 years since it was published.
