If you have a question about this talk, please contact r.vinter. We examine the dissonance between intuition and the mathematical approach, namely rigorous and logical, and applications. The dissonance is rooted in the evolution of the human species, and impacts on the way we learn, teach and use mathematics. Brief Bio: Zvi Artstein is a professor of mathematics at The Weizmann Institute. In addition to his research – primarily in differential equations and control – he held administrative positions, including Dean of Mathematics and Computer Science and VP for Technology Transfer. He is also interested in some philosophical issues of science and mathematics, and in the teaching of mathematics – proposing ideas that have not been, so far, adopted by the community.
