This talk will focus on the inter-play between the theory and the practice of research in the development of intelligent systems (and in complex computer systems more generally).

This topic, which was central to Abe’s research ethos, will be explored through a range of case studies that focus on the design of complete systems (rather than individual components) and the essential insights that can be obtained by explicitly considering the connections between fundamental research challenges and their application in real-world contexts.

This talk is part of the Featured talks series.
