The speaker, a solicitor practicing in an international law firm and based in the City of London, will talk about the nature and value of intellectual property. The seminar will cover patents, copyright and trade marks, as well as other forms of intellectual property. Intellectual property often comprises a business’s most valuable asset, whether as a means for securing licensing revenues or as a weapon to attack infringers of intellectual property rights. In this seminar, the speaker will discuss the creation and (where appropriate) registration of intellectual property rights, the means by which rights may be transferred, and the ways in which they may be exploited and enforced. The seminar is not intended to be a ‘law-school’ lecture: there will be no lists of case-law or references to acts of parliament. Rather, it will be a discussion of the practical and commercial significance of intellectual property, and your participation in that discussion will be encouraged and welcomed.
